Elementary Education (PK-6)
Elementary education teachers are identified as one of the top 10 critical shortage teacher areas in Virginia. The program at Virginia Tech is led by nationally recognized faculty, offers excellent job placement rates, and prepares students to obtain licensure in elementary education (PK-6) in Virginia.
The program teaches students how to create lesson plans, use a variety of teaching methods, and evaluate learning in a culturally responsive manner. Graduates are prepared to deliver content knowledge across the elementary curriculum in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The curriculum includes field-based courses for observation, interaction, and student teaching in the elementary education setting to gain practical knowledge and apply concepts in the PK-6 environment.
