Batteries, Energy Technologies, Smart Windows, Catalysis, Materials
I am interested in batteries, energy technology, and renewable fuels. My research focuses on solid-state batteries, lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, smart windows, and fuel cell catalysts.
Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, I worked at QuantumScape Corporation as a senior member of the technical staff, at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab as a postdoctoral fellow, and at the National Renewable Energy Lab as a graduate research assistant.
I received my bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from Tianjin University in 2009 and my Ph.D. in materials science from Colorado School of Mines in 2012.
I see the future in my field ...
To be bright, with all possibilities as we move towards renewable energy and an electrified society.
I wish I invented ...
A time machine.
My favorite quote ...
“Science is an imaginative adventure of the mind seeking truth in a world of mystery.” - Cyril Hinshelwood
Best part of working at Virginia Tech ...
The collaborative environment and being surrounded by talented students.
Something that excites me in my field ...
Are the immediate impacts on many aspects of our daily lives, such as transportation and electricity usage.
Words of encouragement to an aspiring inventor ...
I would take Richard Feynman's quote: "Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts."
In my free time ...
I love playing basketball in my backyard.
If I had a superpower, it would be ...
Teleportation.
